I just watched Sea Wall.
My god.
I don’t quite know what to do with myself now.
It wrenched my emotions in every possible direction and left me feeling quite hollow. Andrew Scott’s performance as Alex is…well, it doesn’t seem to be a performance at all. You forget you’re watching Andrew Scott - in fact, you forget you’re watching an actor, full-stop.
The way he pauses in his story with a distant look; you can see him remembering all the details of the things he’s telling you about and it’s so human.
I cannot possibly recommend this enough. It’s only £3.50 and it is absolutely worth every penny. Please do go and buy it, it’s wonderful and heartbreaking and beautiful. Watch it from beginning to end; don’t stop to go to the toilet or get food or blink. And you will find yourself in a room with Alex, a man who will “remind you of the little details of life, and make you desperate to find everything you love and have previously taken for granted and just hold it close and never let it go.”
It really is an incredible film. I wish I could have seen the original stage production.
